First off, I quite disliked the book because Nick Carraway annoyed me so much as a narrator and I didn’t really understand Gatsby’s character (his past, what he did, what was actually true about him). This being said, I absolutely loved the movie because it explained so much of the story that got lost in Fitzgerald’s crazy ass twenty’s language.

I feel like I finally understood Gatsby and his motivation for everything he did. The historical context (Wall Street, the war) also gave the story a dimension completely lost in the book. Also, I finally liked Nick Carraway, but hated that he was played by Tobey Maguire (sorry I’m not sorry).

Basically, good fucking job to Baz Luhrmann. The entire was completely ridiculous and over the top and a slight parody of the 1920s, yet it was believable and relate-able. And thank you for explaining everything that was only hinted at in the book (read: Gatsby/Daisy affair sexy times, Gatsby’s past, hustlers, parties).

Nils Olav was given the rank of visekorporal (lance corporal) and has been promoted each time the King’s Guard has returned to the tattoo. In 1982 he was made corporal, and promoted to sergeant in 1987. Nils Olav died shortly after his promotion to sergeant, and his place of honour was taken by Nils Olav II, his two-year-old near-double. He was promoted in 1993 to the rank of regimental sergeant major. On 18 August 2005, he was promoted to Colonel-in-Chief and on 15 August 2008 he was awarded a knighthood. He is the first penguin to receive such an honour in the Norwegian army. At the same time a 4-foot-high (1.2 m) bronze statue of Nils Olav was presented to Edinburgh Zoo.
